Why The Arkansas Childcare Bridge Exists

Childcare should not be the reason a parent loses a job, misses training, or has to remove a child from a safe and stable routine.

For decades, I have worked alongside children, parents, teachers, and childcare professionals. I have watched families depend on childcare so they could work, provide for their households, continue their education, and build greater stability.

I have also seen what happens when that care becomes unaffordable or uncertain.

A parent may begin missing work. A child may lose trusted caregivers and familiar routines. A childcare provider may lose the reliable enrollment needed to maintain classrooms, retain staff, and continue serving families.

These problems are connected.

That is why Uniting Voices is building The Arkansas Childcare Bridge.

The Arkansas Childcare Bridge is a statewide childcare assistance program designed to help eligible Arkansas families maintain consistent care through participating, vetted, and licensed childcare providers.

Assistance will not be automatic or guaranteed. It will depend on verified need, required documentation, provider participation, available funding, written approval, and continued compliance.

When assistance is approved, payment will be made directly to the participating childcare provider and applied only to the authorized child’s account and approved childcare period. The program will not duplicate another payment already covering the same childcare cost.

These safeguards matter.

Compassion without structure can create promises that a program cannot responsibly keep. The Bridge is being built to connect care with accountability—supporting families while protecting donors, providers, and the integrity of every decision.

Our inaugural $2.2 million, 24-month national campaign will help establish this statewide pathway, fund approved childcare assistance, build the participating-provider network, and create the verification, reporting, payment, and impact systems required for responsible delivery.

This campaign will not solve every childcare challenge in Arkansas. It can, however, create a practical and accountable way for charitable support to reach verified needs.

The goal is simple:

Keep children in care.
Keep parents connected to work.
Help families move forward.

That is why The Arkansas Childcare Bridge exists.
